ARTECH CNC Customizes Milling Robot Arm In-House for Customer’s Ship Model Carving Demand

Recently, ARTECH CNC Company completed the customized design and prototype testing of a dedicated milling robot arm at its manufacturing workshop, specially developed to meet a client’s core demand for high-precision ship model carving.

The customer specializes in marine display models, yacht prototypes and ship teaching samples. Traditional flat CNC equipment cannot fully restore the complex curved hull, layered deck and delicate hull surface textures, while manual carving brings low efficiency and inconsistent dimensional accuracy. After technical communication, ARTECH CNC’s R&D team launched targeted optimization on the standard 6-axis milling robot arm.

This customized robot arm expands the working radius to adapt to large-size ship blanks, matched with a high-speed low-vibration carving spindle. Equipped with self-developed RobCode programming system, it directly imports customers’ 3D ship model files to generate automatic milling paths, realizing 360° omnidirectional layered carving on foam, wood and composite ship model raw materials. During factory trial operation, the equipment stably carved ship hull radian, cabin structure and tiny equipment details, with repeated positioning accuracy controlled within ±0.07mm, solving the customer’s long-standing precision bottleneck.

The client’s technical person in charge visited the workshop to witness the test and highly recognized the equipment’s flexibility and machining fineness. Compared with original manual and traditional multi-axis machine tools, the robot arm cuts model production cycle by over 60% and unifies finished surface quality.
